Lena Gonzalez is an American politician serving in the California State Senate. She was first elected in a 2019 special election to succeed Ricardo Lara, who resigned after being elected state Insurance Commissioner in 2018. A Democrat, she represents the 33rd State Senate district, which encompasses parts of southwestern Los Angeles County, including South Gate, Lynwood, Paramount, and most of Long Beach. Prior to being elected to the State Senate, she was a Long Beach City Councilwoman.
