Controversies

Qamar has received frequent criticism for the negative portrayal of women in his soap operas.[6]

On March 3, 2020, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar appeared on a Pakistani talk show on Neo News to discuss the Aurat March. After the discussion, Qamar disrespectfully requested that no one interrupt him while talking, however, after a tense situation, the Pakistani human rights activist Marvi Sirmed said "Mera Jism Meri Marzi" (meaning "My Body My Choice") but Qamar called her shameful and made derogatory remarks about Sirmed's body according to Gulf News.[7] Agence France-Presse reported that Qamar said to Sirmed that "no one would even spit on your body" and that she was a "cheap woman" who should "shut up".[6] Qamar was heavily criticized by politicians and prominent figures, while Geo TV suspended his contract.[6]
