History of the Channel: From the ABP Network Group, ABP Asmita is a Gujarati news channel that has seen tremendous success since its inception on 15 January 2016. With a tagline representing the pride of Gujarat, ‘ABP Asmita, Gujarat Ni Asmita’, the channel keeps viewers ahead by updating them on newsworthy facts and the latest information. ABP Asmita has differentiated itself as a responsible channel backed by a fair, balanced approach, combining prompt reporting with insightful analysis of news in Gujarati.

Why and how it was created: The Channel was created to reach local regions of Gujarat with state, national and global news and information. Its goal is to preserve and spread Gujarati culture and pride worldwide.

The Channel was launched on 15 JANUARY 2016.

USP

ABP Asmita is renowned for its accurate news and coverage of politics and elections. It has extensively covered the Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017 and General Elections 2019. At the regional/state level, ABP Asmita has been covering the elections of municipal corporations, co-operative sectors and other sub-elections.

2017–2018: ABP Asmita’s initiative on urban issues of encroachment resonated in the Gujarat High Court.

In 2018, ABP Asmita aired the ‘JAL AE JEEVAN’ (Water is Life) initiative. For this, it designed a special program, conducting numerous interviews with influential people. The program highlighted water-related issues and also ran exclusive coverage on various pertinent problems.

Based on Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography, Satya Na Prayogo (My Experiments with Truth), ABP Asmita curated a special interview-based program ‘Satya Na Prayogo’. An instant success, viewers highly appreciated the show. Based on the program, ABP Asmita began hosting conclaves where dignitaries such as CM Vijay Rupani, Governor Acharya Devvrat-ji, Sanjay Dutt (Actor), Manhar Udas (Singer), RS Sodhi (MD, Amul), Chandubhai Virani (Founder & MD, Balaji Wafers) participated and narrated their life experiences and how the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi helped them in leading a better life.

Established in 2019, ABP ASMITA SANMAN PURASKAR is an initiative to recognize prominent Gujaratis who have made significant contributions to society. Through this annual flagship event, ABP Asmita awards Gujaratis who have strengthened the state’s foundation via dedication and hard work. The awards are presented in diverse categories such as Literature, Culture, Folk, Education, Social Service, Business, Cinema, Music, Sports, etc. Some awardees include Padma Shri Bhikhudan Gadhvi (Folk Culture – 2020), Parthiv Gohil (Music – 2020), Boman Irani (Cinema – 2019), Savaji Dholakia (Business – 2019), GCMMF (AMUL) (Business – 2020), Kiran Kumar (Cinema – 2020), Parthiv Patel (Sports – 2019), Raghuveer Chaudhary, Joravarsinh Jadav (Literature – 2019 & 2020), Mittal Patel (Social Work – 2019), Nilesh Mandlewala (Social Work – 2020), et al.

CSR

Current collaboration: In the wake of COVID-19, millions across the world have lost their basic livelihoods, which has caused significant levels of hunger in India. With ABP Network’s support, ABP Asmita has joined hands with the Robin Hood Army for its mission to serve 30 million meals to the needy by 15 August 2020.
