Animal is the debut album by American singer and songwriter Kesha, to be released on January 5, 2010.[3] The first single, "Tik Tok" was released to US radio on October 5, 2009.[4] It will be released throughout January In Canada, United Kingdom, United States and many other countries. The executive producer of the album is Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald.

Background

Kesha was featured on Flo Rida's single, "Right Round". Then it was announced that she had signed with RCA Records[5] through Dr. Luke and was working on her debut album,[6] Animal, which is due to be released on January 5, 2010 in the US. On her songwriting process, she told Esquire magazine that "I'll usually go out, have one fucking insane night, come home half-drunk, stumbling, and write down a few words. The next morning I'll wake up and be like, Whoa, this story needs to be told." For first single, "Tik Tok" she explained that "I woke up one day after we went to a party, and I was surrounded by ten of the most beautiful women you've ever seen. And I was like, I'm like Diddy — there's no man like him in the entire world."[7] She told DigitalSpy that when it came to her music she wanted to "give people something that brings them joy. There are artists who do more serious acoustic stuff, and I really admire them, but what I want to bring to the table is just fucking fun."[8]

Promotion

She performed five songs for a Live Session with MTV UK, "Tik Tok", "Dinosaur", "Blah Blah Blah", "Backstabber" and "Party at a Rich Dude's House".[9] The first three songs were used for the MTV Push program that is broadcast on MTV channels worldwide.[10][11] "Tik Tok" was used to promote season six of Project Runway and was featured in the 2009 reboot of Melrose Place[12] and The Hills.[13] Another song, "Boots and Boys" was used in an episode of the new Melrose Place as well.[12]
