The Arundinoideae is a subfamily of the true grass family Poaceae, including giant reed and common reed. As identified by the short cell silicious bodies in leaf and culm Dolores Piperno & Deborah Pearsall from the Smithonian Institute remark that the Arundinoideae subfamily or lower clades may have been the originator in evolutionary history of all grasses.
