Bangalore Open Air (BOA) is India's only dedicated heavy metal open air music festival which takes place yearly in Bangalore, India. Bangalore Open Air, in collaboration with Wacken Open Air (currently considered as the biggest heavy metal festival in the world) is into its 7th edition as of 2018. The festival also hosts Wacken Metal Battle's Indian leg, with the winning band getting an opportunity to play at Wacken Open Air. India is the 27th Country to participate in the W:O:A Metal Battle which has been organised in the country since 2011.

The First Edition of the festival took place on 16 June 2012. It was headlined by German thrash metal band Kreator.[1]

2013
The Second Edition of the festival took place at Jayamahal Palace on 6 July 2013. It was headlined by American metal band Iced Earth [3] & Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquillity.[4] The event took place at Jayamahal Palace on 6 July 2013.

2014
The Third Edition of the festival took place on 13 September 2014 & was headlined by Destruction.
For the first time in the history of Heavy Metal Music, Concept of Crowd funding was adopted to fund a percentage of the festival. Wishberry.in. kicked off the Crowd funding campaign for direct funding of the Bangalore Open Air 2014 by the Metal Heads.
The 4th Edition of the Wacken Open Air Metal Battle, India presented by Bangalore Open Air was held from 19 April to 27 April. The prelims of the competition were held in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Guwahati & Kolkata.

The 4th Edition of the festival now renamed G-Shock Bangalore Open Air was held on 6 June 2015.

The 6th and most successful edition of G-Shock Bangalore Open Air was held on 1 July 2017 at Royal Orchid Resorts, Yelahanka, Bangalore, for the third consecutive time at the same location. The line up consisted of bands from varied sub genres of metal such as Death Metal, Thrash metal and Speed Metal.

2018
The 7th anniversary edition of G-Shock Bangalore Open Air was held on 7 July 2018 at Aadya Farms and Leisure Resorts, Yelahanka, Bangalore. This edition marks the maiden show of American thrash metal titans Overkill in India. American death metal band Immolation was another epic act for Indian metal fans. It was also the first time that French post metal band Alcest made it to India. Alcest has been trying to bring their blackgaze sound to India since 2013 and this was the first time their fans have been able to see them live.[26].
