Barbara Nekesa Oundo is a Ugandan politician. She is the current State Minister for Karamoja Affairs in the Ugandan Cabinet. She was appointed to that position on 27 May 2011.[1] She replaced Janet Museveni, who was appointed Minister for Karamoja Affairs. Barbara Oundo Nekesa is also the elected Member of Parliament for Busia District Women's Representative.

Background and education

She was born in Busia District, Eastern Uganda, on 6 June 1984 and she attended local schools. In 2006, she was admitted to Makerere University, Uganda's oldest and largest public university, graduating in 2009 with the degree of Bachelor of Human Resources Management (BHRM).[2]

Career and family

Since 2007, she is married to Charles Oundo, a foreign service officer, whom she met while an undergraduate at Makerere, and together are the parents of two sons. In 2011, she successfully ran for the parliamentary seat of Busia District Women's Constituency. She was elected on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) political party ticket. In May 2011, one month shy of the age of 27, she was appointed State Minister for Karamoja, reporting directly to Janet Museveni, Uganda's First Lady and Minister for Karamoja. [3]
