The Battle of Asculum was fought in 209 BC between Hannibal's Carthaginian army, and a Roman force. The Romans were led by Marcus Claudius Marcellus. While the battle itself proved indecisive, Marcellus was soon recalled to Rome on charges of bad generalship.
