Season chronology | |
The second season of the Black Clover anime TV series was directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara and produced by Pierrot.[2] Like the rest of the series, it follows the adventures of Asta and the Black Bulls from Yuki Tabata's Black Clover manga series. The season adapts Tabata's manga from the rest of the 9th volume onward, with the exception of episodes 55 and 56 (which adapt Tabata and Johnny Onda's light novel, The Book of the Black Bulls). The first 14 episodes focus on the Black Bulls as they enter the Forest of Witches and help heal Asta's arms, which were injured from his battle with the Eye of the Midnight Sun.
The season premiered on October 2, 2018, on TV Tokyo in Japan,[3] and is scheduled to be released in five DVD and Blu-ray compilations, each consisting of eight to eleven episodes, by Avex Pictures between April 26, 2019, and January 31, 2020.[4][1] Both Crunchyroll and Funimation licensed the series for an English release, with Crunchyroll simulcasting the second season,[5] and Funimation producing a North American SimulDub broadcast.[6] Funimation's adaptation premiered on January 13, 2019, on Adult Swim.[7]
The second season uses eight pieces of theme music: four opening themes and four ending themes. For the first 13 episodes, the opening and ending themes are "Reckless" (ガムシャラ, Gamushara) and "Heaven and Earth" (天上天下, Tenjō Tenge), both performed by Miyuna.[8][9] The second opening and ending themes, used for episodes 65 to 76, are "Scribble Page" (落書きペイジ, Rakugaki Peiji) by Kankaku Piero[10] and "My Song My Days" by Solidemo with Sakura men.[11][12] The third opening theme, used for episodes 77 to 94, are "JUSTadICE" by Seiko Ōmori and the ending theme used for episodes 77 to 89, are "The Path of Blooming Flowers" (花が咲く道, Hana ga Saku Michi) by The Charm Park.[13] The fourth opening theme used for episodes 95 onward is "Sky & Blue" by Girlfriend and the ending theme used for episodes 90 onward is "Against All Gods" by M-Flo.[14]
