C.C. Lambert Elementary School was an elementary school in Tustin, California. It was the first of four schools in the Tustin Unified School District to shut down. Before it shut down it was one of 18 elementary schools in the Tustin United School District.[1]
Founded in 1965, it first shut down in 1978. It reopened in 1996, but shut down again in 2016. Lambert was presented two awards on its final year, and ended with a farewell ceremony indicating its closure.
History
[edit]C.C. Lambert Elementary School was named after Charles Calvin Lambert, a butcher from West Virginia. It was built on land previously owned by the butcher.[2] Lambert's first principal was John Veeh.[3] The school first closed in 1978, as a result of "declining enrollment".
In 1996, Lambert reopened and was refurbished. In November 2000, Lambert employees and parents of children started raising money for computers, books, and field trips via the Box Tops for Education program.[4] In 2015, it was announced Lambert would shut down again in 2016. A farewell ceremony, "A Tribute to the Heart of Lambert" was presented on May 17, 2016, presenting the history of Lambert.[5] Most students went to neighboring Helen Estock Elementary school.[1]
Academics
[edit]For the 2015–16 year, Lambert had 426 students. A large majority of these (420 to be exact) were Hispanic and Latino, whilst there was two students of Asian, Pacific Islander, and White origin each.[6]
Lambert was shown the California Blue Ribbon School and Title 1 Academic Achievement School awards on its final year.[7]
