History

On February 10, 2003, the Haliburton County Community Radio Association received Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approval to operate a new english-language FM community radio station at 100.9 MHz in Haliburton, Ontario. Canoe FM, as a not for profit volunteer based community radio station, is the Voice of the Haliburton Highlands. Canoe programming is designed for full-time, part-time and seasonal residents of Haliburton County. The CRTC mandate requires that Canoe have content that spans a vast majority of the music genres balancing music with talk and information exchange while at the same time providing a stage for Canadian artists and their music. The Malcolm MacLean Radio Hall is a small performance space that is open to musicians and performers. This space can also be booked as a meeting space. The station prides itself in the promotion of local and Canadian talent. To book the hall contact the station directly. Canoe is staffed by over 130 volunteers and 3 paid positions. Canoe FM is managed by a volunteer board of directors that are elected by volunteers at an Annual General Meeting. The Canoe board meets the 4th Thursday of each month. For information contact our Station Manager at 705-457-1009.[1] The station signed on in July 2003.
