2011 Cape Verdean presidential election
Appearance
A presidential election was held in Cape Verde on 7 August 2011.[1] A run-off round was held on 21 August 2011, as no candidate attained an absolute majority of votes in the first round.
Four candidates stood in the election:[2]
- Former Foreign Minister Manuel Inocêncio Sousa was the candidate of the ruling African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV).
- Aristides Lima, President of the National Assembly, ran for President without the support of PAICV, to which he belongs.
- Former Foreign Minister Jorge Carlos Fonseca was the candidate of the opposition Movement for Democracy.
- Joaquim Monteiro was standing as an independent candidate.
