[edit]This seems to me to be the only one of over a hundred country categories which is about nationality not location i.e. it should, for consistency's sake be "Wikipedians in Australia" not "Australian Wikipedians". Mgekelly - Talk 08:23, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
- There is a Category:Wikipedians in Australia. This category predates that system.--cj | talk 08:44, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for that link. However, it seems to me that is pretty much makes this category here redundant, especially considering that there are no similar categories for other countries. Mgekelly - Talk 11:36, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
- This category is for Wikipedians who are from Australia, or whose parents are. That category is for Wikipedians who are currently (or usually) in Australia. The former ("Australian Wikipedians") is a matter of national identity, heritage, etc.; the latter ("Wikipedians in Australia") is a matter of location. And, ironically, the most important of the three potential categories in the chain, Category:Wikipedians interested in Australia (for any Wikipedians who like to edit Australia-related topics, regardless of whether they have any real connection to it), doesn't yet exist, as is the case for most such triads. -Silence 11:47, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
- This is not the case! This category's frontpage states that it is for people who live in or are associated with Australia, not 'Australians'. Hence my point that it is largely covered by Wikipedians in Australia, and also that no other nationalities have a category covering people of that nationality. The reason I noticed this discrepancy is that I am English and live in Australia, and put an 'lives in Australia' userbox on my profile, which added me to this category, while there is no similar category for English or British Wikipedians that I can join. Mgekelly - Talk 12:12, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
- That is just a simple error. Check the History; the correct version was for some reason partially reverted to an out-of-date one from when a different categorization system was in place for pages like this. Hence the internal contradiction of part of this page formerly saying "this is for Wikipedians who live in Australia" and the other part saying the opposite and directing users to Category:Wikipedians in Australia. Much silliness. You're also 100% incorrect in claiming that no other nationalities have a similar category, of course; there are dozens. Category:English Wikipedians. -Silence 12:20, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
- Wicked - I am completely satisfied and very grateful! Thanks! Mgekelly - Talk 12:34, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
