Sub-cat to Category:Individual preserved locomotives?

The majority of these would seem to be notable on account of their preservation, rather than for any achievements in service. Is it useful to distinguish the two? – primarily to distinguish those notable before preservation, but the wording and definition of scope would be clearer based on their preservation.
