Use of template

I noticed that a previous editor has removed

from this category as is normally practiced at Wikipedia and instead inserted a long description. I have replaced the description with the template - but am unsure why this template was removed earlier? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:16, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
