Splitting category into pre and post Open era?[edit]

I wonder if it would be worth moving the templates that relate only to the pre-Open era to a category called something like "Category:US National Championship (tennis) navigational boxes", which could then be a sub-category of this one? My concern is that unless you know the background (ie that before the being the US Open the tournament was the National Championships) it might not be obvious to a casual editor as to why things like Template:U.S. National Championships women's singles champions are in this category.
