"Refrain" (1956) ►

"Das alte Karussell" ("The old Carousel") was the first Swiss entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1956. It was performed in German by Lys Assia. It is unknown what position the song finished, as only the winning song was announced.

The song was performed second in the contest, following the Netherlands' Jetty Paerl with "De vogels van Holland" and preceding Belgium's Fud Leclerc with "Messieurs les noyés de la Seine". 1956 was the only year the Contest allowed two entries per country. The song was accompanied at the 1956 contest by Assia with "Refrain" and was succeeded as Swiss representative at the 1957 contest by Assia with "L'enfant que j'étais".
