The Centre for Port Cities and Maritime Cultures is an interdisciplinary research centre based at the University of Portsmouth. It was founded in 2023 to explore the past, present and future importance of urban-maritime cultures and communities across the globe.[1]
The Centre has been formed by the merger of two research groups at the University of Portsmouth – Port Towns and Urban Cultures and Supernatural Cities.[2][3]
Its membership includes nine associate members, including Faye Hammill, and Timothy Wong Man-Kong, and 26 academic members from the University of Portsmouth, including Deborah Sugg Ryan.[4][5]
The Leverhulme Trust is supporting Zack White’s early career fellowship, researching race, empire and the law in British India, 1795-1830, at the Centre.[6][7]
The Centre has partnerships with Halmstad University, Sweden; Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong; University of Macau, Macau, China.[8]
