The Lutheran High School of St. Charles County (LHS) is a private Lutheran high school in St. Peters, Missouri, United States. The school is associated with the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. As of 2023, the high school has a reported enrollment of 460 students.[1]

Organization[edit]

The Lutheran High School Association currently consists of nine regional LCMS congregations in St. Charles County. Of these congregations, five operate K-8 elementary and middle schools with the aim to feed students to the high school. Additional students also come from other various middle and high schools in the greater St. Louis area.

The LHS school board consists of one representative from each association congregation, with the titles of chairman, vice chairman, and secretary designated to three of those representatives.[2]

History[edit]

In 1982 the high school educated its first class of students under the name "Martin Luther High School" in O'Fallon, before relocating to a former Catholic school building in St. Charles. By 1989, the school association had purchased its current 20-acre land parcel in St. Peters, with the building completed and dedicated in 1990. Several additions have been made to the property since then: additional classrooms and a commons in 1999, and a track and athletic field in 2006. [3] The most recent major addition occurred when a new gymnasium was dedicated in 2019.[4]

Athletics[edit]

Lutheran High School is a member of the Missouri State High School Activities Association and the Archdiocesan Athletic Association, competing as the "Cougars". In 2021, the school won its first state football championship, defeating opponent Lamar High School at Faurot Field.[5] The Cougars also hold past state championships in girl's basketball, track and field, and volleyball, as well as boy's golf and soccer.
