Rhea Solanki is an Indian-Canadian Filmmaker, Production Designer, Art Director and Writer. She is best known for her work on Netflix's hit Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story where she worked with Production Designer Matthew Flood Ferguson, a close collaborator of Ryan Murphy. Some of her other projects include Apple TV's Surfside Girls and Lionsgate / ABC's hit sitcom Home Economics.[1]
Her film, We Were Meant To world premiered at Sundance 2023 where it was an Official Selection for US Fiction Short Films category and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.[2][3][4]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Solanki was born in Mumbai, India and grew up in Vancouver, Canada. She spent her childhood traveling between the two countries.[5][6] She is currently based in Los Angeles, USA. Her father is a serial entrepreneur who currently is working in the energy and climate change sector.
She received her Bachelor in Arts for Theatre Design & Production, Film and Digital Culture at Arizona State University. Before pursuing her Master's (MFA) in Production Design at the American Film Institute. It is currently ranked the number 1 film school in America[7] and is considered one of the best production design programs in the world.[8][9]
Career

[edit]She started her career as a Set Designer on various Theatre productions in India and USA. Her first project in high school, Antigone, was shown at the National Centre for Performing Arts. She has also collaborated with the Southwest Shakespeare Company and the Straycat Theatre.[10]
Film & Television
[edit]The first film she is credited with designing is Gunsight. However her most pivotal project was Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which is only the third series in history to cross over 1 Billion hours streamed within its first 60 days on Netflix; making it currently the third most popular English language show of all time for the streamer.[11]
Another one of her films - Amina, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival 2022 and was screened alongside Jordan Peele's film Nope in select theaters across the US.[12][13]
She has also frequently collaborated with Greg J. Grande - the production designer with whom she created both Home Economics Season 3, which averaged over 1.98 million viewers,[14] and the upcoming Hulu / Onyx TV Show Unprisoned.[15][16]
