Vadim Vitalievich Motylev (born January 21, 1981, Moscow, USSR), better known by the stage name Slim , now Slimus is a Russian rap artist, beatmaker and sound producer, a former member of the bands Smoke screen and Centr. Co-founder of the TSAO Records label, founder of the AzimutZvuk label.
Biography[edit]
Vadim Motylev was born on January 21, 1981 in Moscow. Since childhood, his favorite hobby has been music. He studied at the 569th (Zyuzino district) and 204th schools in Moscow, received higher education at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.
Creation[edit]
1996—2006: band «Smoke screen»[edit]
Motylev began to get involved in music back in 1993 after listening to albums by Public Enemy, Run-D.M.C., Ice T, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube. At the end of 1996, together with Lexus, he created the rap group “Smoke Screen”, in which he was responsible for the music and lyrics. The first studio tracks were recorded. At the same time, I met the members of the rap association “Dremuchiye”, who invited them to join their membership. In 1997, the group made its debut in the compilation “Just Rap” and the album “Dremuchikh”, “183 Days”, and also performed for the first time at a concert organized by “Dremuchikh”.
Since 1999, the rapper began experimenting with writing music. The first experience was “Experiment” and the instrumental track “Porn”. At this time, Slim met Viktor “Mutant” Shevtsov, the sound engineer of “Dolphin”. Thanks to this acquaintance, the track “Pink Reggae” appeared in the group’s debut album, the music for which was created by “Dolphin”.
In 2000, the group released its debut album, “Without Contraception,” and in early 2003, “Did You Want the Truth?” The next album, entitled “Explosive Device,” was released in 2004. During its recording, Motylev met Alexei Dolmatov (Rolexx), with whom the track “Wedding” was recorded. As a result of this acquaintance, Slim wrote almost all the music for Rolexx’s debut album (since 2004 - “Guf”) “City of Roads” (2007), and also took a guest part as a rapper. At the same time, he received an invitation to become a member of the Centr project, which already included “Principle”, “Ptah” and Guf. Work on the “Center” album proceeded simultaneously with the recording of the new album “Veils” and the debut releases of Guf and “Ptakhi”.
At the end of 2006, the fourth album of “Smoke Screen”, “Floors”, was released, after which the project was frozen for an indefinite time.
2007—2013: band Centr and solo releases[edit]
After the release of the album “Floors,” Slim, together with Guf and “Ptah,” devoted himself entirely to creating the first album “Swing” by the Centr group, which was released on October 25, 2007. The album brought fame to the group, and in 2008 it won the MTV Russia Music Awards in the hip-hop category for the song “City of Roads.” In 2008, the second album “Ether is Normal” was released. In 2009, Guf left the team.
At the end of September 2009, Slim’s debut album “Cold” was released. The first video clip from the album was shot for the song of the same name, which even two months after the release was one of the most viewed on the Rap.ru website.
In June 2010, the track “Spice Baby” appeared, which is a response to Guf’s video “100 Lines”, and subsequently a video parody was shot for it (on Guf’s video “Ice Baby”). On February 10, 2011, the album “Differentiate People” was released on CD.
The next release from Slim was a joint album with the group “Constant” called “Azimuth”, which was released on June 1, 2011. It was presented on the portal Rap.ru. "Azimuth" was originally released as an online release and later went to retail.

On August 20, 2012, Slim’s third solo album, entitled “Cen-Tropez,” became available for listening on the “trava.ru” service. At the end of the year, YouTube Rewind summed up all the most striking shots, events and images that were remembered in 2012. Slim’s “Girl” video was included in the list of Russian videos with the highest rate of increase in views in 2012.
2013 — present[edit]
At the end of 2012, it became known that Slim and underground rap artists Raskolnikov and Barbiturny teamed up to record a joint mini-album under the working title “Special Fo You”, the name was soon changed to EP 2013. On November 29, a video for the song “Black Snowflake” was published. On December 29, Slim gave his first concert in Moscow. The first test step was to perform previously six tracks at a May concert in Moscow. Just like that time, for this performance Motylev invited musicians from the Affect-Solo band. Together they prepared a large program for this concert: well-known songs were performed to live music.
On February 3, 2014, the track list and cover of Slim's fourth solo album, Lotto 33, were published. Its release took place on March 17. On November 3, an album with live sound was released together with AFFECT SOLO entitled “SYMPHONY NUMBER 5”.

Conflict[edit]
Conflict with Guf[edit]
In May 2010, Guf published a video clip “100 lines” online, which is a “video message” to the people, where he talked about his family, how much he values it, mentioned the collapse of the Centr group, but did not reveal the secret of why he left it. The clip is a diss on his former friends – Slim and “Ptakhu”, as well as on Pavel Volya (a gentle mockery in the form of gratitude to his answer), fake pages on the social network “VKontakte”, PR against his fans on the Internet. The video shows Guf walking around the city, who slowly goes home, meets “Principle” on the way and goes with him into the entrance. The video caused a huge scandal online among fans of rappers.
Slim later responded to the video. This song really hurt him, because before that he had recorded the song “Differentiate People” with Guf, where Guf says that his acquaintance Marcus is a very “good friend,” but for some reason Slim’s verse characterizes this character in the opposite way. The track was recorded in this form because Guf replaced all the instrumentals and cut out Slim’s verses from the upcoming second album “At Home,” although almost all the tracks had already been completed. Slim shot a video clip called “Spice Baby,” which is a parody of Guf’s “Ice Baby” video and at the same time a diss response to the “100 Lines” video. In the video clip, Slim caricatures Guf: he burrs, uses his catchphrases, wearing a hat in the shape of a “Goofy” head, hinting at a pseudonym, “reveals” some of Guf’s weaknesses, and also repeatedly calls the enemy a “cunning Jew.” “Bird” took part in the “Spice Baby” video, and also showed excerpts from recordings of an interview with Guf and the “100 Lines” video and his other tracks (the unreleased “Under the Balcony” and a verse from the song “In Normal” from the album "Ether is normal").
Music of Slim[edit]
Slim is also a beatmaker. He created the majority of the music for both his solo and albums of his groups Smokescreen and Centr; author of music in the albums “City of Roads” by Guf, “Scales” and “Oxygen” by Strizh, “About Nothing” by “Birds”, “Azimuth” (together with “Constant”) and “Legends about...Centr” (together with "Legends about...").
