The Art of Crime (French: L'art du crime) is a French police procedural television series with each episode focused on solving murders involving historical works of art. Each investigation is led by Captain Antoine Verlay, a Paris police detective, and his partner Florence Chassagne who is an art historian with the Louvre.

The cases usually center around the works of a single artist that provide clues about the identity of the murderer or their motive.

Premise

[edit]

As a result of insulting his boss at the crime squad, Captain Antoine Verlay accepts a reassignment to the Central Office for Combating Trafficking in Cultural Property (OCBC), a department that investigates art-related crime, led by Verlay’s best friend Commander Alex Pardo. Verlay’s continued disinterest and disdain for all things art-related forces Pardo to retain Florence Chassagne as a consultant to work with Verlay. With completely opposite personalities and backgrounds, Verlay and Chassagne frequently clash during the investigations. Preferring to work alone, Verlay initially resents the partnership but gradually accepts and learns to appreciate Chassagne’s insight into the cases.
