Eagle's Landing Christian Academy is a large private Christian school about 25 miles south of Atlanta in McDonough, Georgia, United States. Eagle's Landing Christian Academy ranks sixth in the Atlanta Business Chronicle of Atlanta's 75 Largest Private Schools.

History of the Academy

Eagles Landing Christian Academy was founded originally as McDonough Christian Academy in 1970. The school had its first graduating class in 1977, with nine students. The school was later renamed Meadow Creek Christian Academy and then Greater Atlanta Christian School – Meadow Creek Campus. The heads of the school then changed its name to Meadow Creek Christian Academy before finally deciding on the current Eagles Landing Christian Academy.[1]

In 2006, the school and church went through a massive multi-million dollar building project – adding a new gym, church offices, and cafeteria. Swine Flu

On May 4, 2009 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that a 14 year old student had H1N1 virus, also known as Swine Flu.[2] This was the first reported case of H1N1 of a Georgia resident. The school was forced to close for fourteen days according to the Federal guidelines. All school events – athletic, educational, and fine arts – were canceled until further notice. The CDC changed their policy on school closures on May 5, and ELCA began to prepare to re-open on May 7. On May 6, the school had its second case of Swine Flu.[3] In response to the infestation, the School entered a cleaning effort. School administrator Chuck Gilliam stated:[4]

"We are cleaning light switches, door handles, and other places student come in contact with…"

On May 7, the school reopened. The students returned to class as normal, but new safety regulations to prevent students from receive the swine flu from student to student contact. The school's reaction to the outbreak was viewed by parents and students as an example for future administrations.[5]

Eagles Landing Christian Academy offered a number of Honors and Advanced Placement classes. Advanced Placement enables students to take college-level courses. Honors course enable students to study at a faster pace than regular classes.

Eagle's Landing Christian Academy offered College English courses at the Brewton-Parker College. Completion of the courses will give the students college credits in addition to high school credits. Dr. David Balty is the professor in College English at Eagle's Landing Christian Academy.

Football
Varsity Football

In the 2009 football season, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy varsity football team made it to the playoff. In the playoff, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy defeated Athens Academy 18-23, but lost to Lincoln County High School 39-47.

In the 2010 Football season, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy made it to the playoff. It beat Washington-Wilkes High School 49-7 and George Walton Academy 34-21, but they lost in the quarterfinals to Clinch County High School 27-34. Because they have a record of being "almost" undefeated, they finished 2nd in state in the final AJC poll. ELCA's main contribution to their success is God, the football team, and the coaching staff. ELCA's Most Valuable Player of the 2010 Football Season is Keyante Green who has offers from many athletic [[NCAA Division I}} Universities. Besides that, each players has their part in the success of their football team.

Junior Varsity Football

In the 2010 football season, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy junior varsity football team won the Regional championship. Most of the players are champions of the 2009 ELCA Middle School football team. In the first game, ELCA played Hapeville Charter High School and defeated them 29-14. In the second game, ELCA played Landmark Christian School and defeated them 28-0. In the third game, ELCA played First Presbyterian Day School and defeated them 36-14. After that, they played Whitefield Academy and won 26-0. After the game against Whitefield, they played against Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School and defeated them 41-0. The team later played against Locust Grove High School and defeated them 34-8. In the end, they made it to the Regional Championship, and there, they played against Wesleyan School. In the finals, ELCA defeated Wesleyan 36-14. Some of the players are so good at football that they are allowed in the Varsity football team.

Middle School Football

In the 2009 football season, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy Middle School football team won the Georgia regional championship against Landmark Christian Academy. Eagle's Landing Christian Academy scored 28 points, while Landmark Christian Academy scored 20 points. The major contribution to their success was teamwork. Members of the Middle School football team banded together and used their hardwork to score success that drove them into first place in the Georgia High School Association regional championship.

Baseball

The baseball team won the state championship 3 times in the row from 2006-2008.

Softball

The softball team won the state championship 4 times in the row from 2006-2009. Unfortunately, in the 2010, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy didn't even make it to the playoff, but they did make it to the preliminary playoff. In the preliminary playoff, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy lost to Hebron Christian Academy 0-2.

Volleyball

In the 2009 volleyball season, the team played well in the playoff. The varsity girls' volleyball team made it to the GHSA A-AA Elite Eight tournament, but in the first game of the tournament, they lost to Greater Atlanta Christian School 1-3.

In the 2010 girls' volleyball season, another attempt to reach the state finals was unsuccessful. the varsity girls' volleyball team made it to the GHSA Class A-AA State Volleyball Championship, but lost to Holy Innocents' Episcopal School 2-3 in the first game.

Girls' Basketball

In the 2009-2010 girls' basketball season, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy made it to the GHSA Class A Girls State Basketball Tournament. In the first game of the basketball tournament, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy lost to Trion High School.

Boys' Tennis

In the 2010 boys' tennis season, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy made it to the 2009-2010 Class A Boys' State Tennis Tournament. In the first game of the tennis tournament, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy lost to Darlington School 0-5.

Girls' Soccer

In the 2010 girls' soccer season, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy won regions and made it to the GHSA Class A-AA Girls State Soccer Tournament. In the quarterfinal of this tournament, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy lost to Greater Atlanta Christian School 1-4.

Track and field

For the 2009-2010 track and field, Eagle's Landing Christian Academy won the Girl's Middle School Regional Championship.

Eagles Landing Christian Academy does have a well known fine arts program, but it has been growing due to the SACS requirements for schools.

The Middle and High School Marching Band are doing extremely well so far.

Bible Quiz Team

A unique fine art that is offered at Eagles Landing Christian Academy is Bible Quiz Team. The ELCA Bible Quiz team competes in the Florida Quizzing Association, I-85 division.[6] The elementary and middle school bible quiz teams have seen great success in there year, winning several state and division titles. The ELCA High School Bible Quiz team recently moved from RAMS (or Rookie and Middle School) League to VETS League. The main competition for the ELCA High School Bible Quiz Team is Athens Christian Academy.
