East Detroit High School is a high school in Eastpointe, Michigan (Metro Detroit) which serves students in grades 9-12. It is part of the East Detroit Public Schools district. It currently enrolls about 1,300 students.

History

On November 8, 2013, teacher David Zauner dove into a pool to rescue a drowning 14-year-old student. The boy died in the hospital four days later. In June 2014 Zauner accused the school district and John Rizzo, the school's assistant principal and athletic director, of retaliating against him for cooperating with a police investigation about the incident; Zauner is suing the district and Rizzo. Academics

East Detroit High School has a block schedule. Students attend four 90-minute classes every day.

In 2012, the school was divided into three career academies: the 9th Grade Success Academy, which helps freshmen have an easy transition into high school; and two upperclassmen academies, SLAM Academy (Safety, Learning, Culinary Arts, and Medical) and AMMP Academy (Art, Marketing, Media & TV Production).

East Detroit is a Johns Hopkins University Talent Development school.
