Elisa Barnard (born 25 May 1993) is an recurve Australian archer. She has won the Australian Open and the New Zealand National Championships. She will represent Australia in archery at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Personal

Barnard was born 25 May 1993 in Sydney, Australia.[1] She attended MLC School in New South Wales for both primary and secondary education.[1]

Her father is Jonathan Barnard. He is the president of Sydney Olympic Park Archery.[2]Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).[3] The matter went to court.[3] Members of the Australian Archery community implied Snazelle's motives in accusing Barnard's father of harassment were in order to make Barnard ineligible for the Games so Snazelle could take her place.[2][3]

As of 2012, Barnard lives in Sydney, Australia[1] and is attending Macquarie University where she is working on a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelors of Laws.[4] In 2012, she was in her second year in the programme.[4] She is 171 centimetres (67 in) tall and weighs 58 kilograms (128 lb).[1]

Archery

Barnard competes in the women's recurve archery event.[1] She took up the sport following a foot injury that did not allow her to participate in tennis or gymnastics.[1] She has an archery scholarship with the New South Wales Institute of Sport.[1]

In 2011, Barnard finished first at the Adelaide hosted Australian Open in the individual recurve event and finished first at the Hamilton hosted New Zealand National Championships.[1]

Barnard competed in several archery events in 2012 including the national championships in Canberra in March, the World Cup 1 event in April in China, the World Cup 2 event in May in Turkey, and the World Cup 3 event in the United States in June.[4] She finished seventeenth at the China World Cup event.[1] The World Cup 3 event was the final Olympic qualifying event,[3][4] where she finished seventeenth in the recurve individual event.[1] In January 2012, she came in first at the New Zealand-hosted Oceania Championships.[4] She also finished first at the 2012 Australian National Championships.[1] In May 2012, she was ranked the third best female Australian archer.[2][3][5] She has been selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics.[1]
