Explosive Racing (known as X.Racing in Japan) is a racing video game published by FunSoft and developed by Toka for the PlayStation in 1997.[1] It is the sequel to Burning Road.

Synopsis

A number of drivers compete in an illegal, worldwide racing tournament. There are no rules as to conduct - the only stipulation is that the vehicle they are driving has wheels and an engine.

Gameplay

The game is single-player only - unless two PlayStations, two televisions, two copies of the game and a link cable are obtained, in which case a two-player race in Link Mode may be carried out.

The player takes control of one of six characters provided (Tina, Angus, Garcias, Max, Muzak or Iraki), each of whom drives either a car, a truck or a motorcycle. The contest consists of five levels: Scotland, Wild West, China, Antarctica, and San Francisco. Championship Mode sees the player progress through the levels in this order. In each level, it doesn't matter what position the player finishes in; all that matters is that they meet a 'qualifying time' in order to be allowed onto the next level. As in an arcade game, if the qualifying time is not met, the player loses the game and they must begin the Championship again from the start. The game cannot be saved at any time.

When all five initial levels have been completed, each level must be played again in reverse ('mirror' tracks). When this has been completed, the levels must be played again; this time, a further complication is added to the game - the police give chase and the player must avoid being arrested for breaking speed laws worldwide.
