Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest (Japanese: フェアリーテイル 100年クエスト, Hepburn: Fearī Teiru Hyaku-nen Kuesuto) is a Japanese manga series storyboarded by Hiro Mashima and illustrated by Atsuo Ueda. It is a spin-off and a sequel to Mashima's Fairy Tail series, focusing on Natsu Dragneel and his team from the titular wizard guild as they aim to complete an unfinished, century-old mission. The manga was launched in Kodansha's Magazine Pocket manga app on July 25, 2018.

Premise

One year following the demise of Zeref and Acnologia, Natsu Dragneel and his team from the Fairy Tail wizard guild – Lucy Heartfilia, Happy, Gray Fullbuster, Erza Scarlet, Wendy Marvell, and Carla – embark on a "century quest", a guild mission that has never been accomplished in over one hundred years. During the team's absence, the guild recruits a mysterious new member who is obsessed with meeting Natsu.

Production

Following the conclusion of Fairy Tail on July 26, 2017, Hiro Mashima posted a tweet on April 5, 2018 announcing that sequel to the series was being developed as a spin-off manga, although he did not specify that he would be returning as the illustrator.[1] On June 27, Mashima announced that the manga was tentatively titled Fairy Tail Zokuhen (FAIRY TAIL続編, lit. "Fairy Tail Sequel"),[2] which was confirmed on July 4 to be drawn by Atsuo Ueda with original storyboards provided by Mashima.[3]

Publication

The manga was launched with two chapters in Kodansha's Magazine Pocket manga app on July 25, 2018 under the title Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest, while the first chapter was simultaneously published in the 34th issue of Weekly Shōnen Magazine.[3][4] On August 28, 2018, Ueda tweeted that chapters would be released every two weeks beginning on September 5, 2018.[5]

Natsu Dragneel and his team embark on an unfinished guild mission issued over one hundred years ago by Magia Dragon, the first and oldest wizard guild in existence, which is located on the northern continent of Giltena. The guild's master, a formerly human dragon slayer named Elefseria, instructs the team to subdue fabled creatures called the Five God Dragons, each rumored to rival the power of Acnologia. The team travel to the city of Elmina in search of the water god dragon, Mercuphobia; in the process, they encounter a group of dragon slayers from the Diabolos guild, who intend to gain Mercuphobia's immense power by devouring him. Appearing before both guilds to end their fighting, the humanoid Mercuphobia reveals that a century-old witch called the White Wizard has already stolen much of his magic, which he requests Natsu's team to help him recover before his remaining magic can cause a worldwide flood. Meanwhile, Fairy Tail recruits a young woman and admirer of Natsu named Touka, who arouses Gajeel Redfox's suspicions when she mentions Briar, one of Avatar's members. Unbeknownst to Fairy Tail, Jellal Fernandez warns other guilds to avoid making contact with Touka, whom he identifies as the White Wizard.
