Farooqabad (Urdu: فارُوق آباد), earlier known as Chuharkana is a city in Sheikhupura District, Punjab, Pakistan. It is situated 60 km west of Lahore on Sargodha road.

History

Farooqabad was once called as Chuharkana but later changed to Farooqabad on the name of second pious caliph of Islam Umar bin Khatab R.A in the year 1983. First police station was setup there in the british rule in 1924 and is called sadar thana farooqabad. Farooqabad had Sikh and Hindu population prior to Partition in 1947, Gurudwaras are seen throughout the city. After partition Muslims refugees who came from Indian Punjab settled in Farooqabad while Sikh and Hindu population moved to India. the famous persnality of farooqabad is fahad lodhi son of anwer lodhi Pakistan Adventist Seminary $ College (PASC) developed from a small Seventh-day Adventist boy's school founded in 1920 by British. In 1937 it became a co-educational institution with the integration of the seventh-day Adventist girls' school. Steady growth followed as students came in from all parts of the Punjab and North West India.

Demographics and society

Farooqabad's population is mainly Muslim with Sunni majority and Shia minority. Farooqbad also has Christian community with significant numbers. Punjabi is the native language of city. Major tribes of Farooqabad are Arains, Awans, Dogars, Gakhars, Gujjars, Jats, Kambohs, Khokhars, Mughals, Rajputs, Sheikhs, Qureshis, and Syeds. Other smaller tribes are the Raan, Maliks, Khetran, and Rehmanis (Muslim Labana)

Economy

Agriculture is one of the main sources of employment, the town has been a popular grain market as the town is located in a highly fertile area.

Railway station

The central railway station is the main railway station of Farooqabad built during the British region around the nineteenth century. The station is used to take people to all parts of Pakistan from Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Peshawar and many more cities and towns of Pakistan by Rail.

Education

There are many educational institutes in city Farooqabad. Pakistan Adventist Seminary is a Christian co-educational institution of higher learning located in the Punjab province of Pakistan. The purpose of the Pakistan Adventist Seminary is to train workers to serve the church in Pakistan and beyond, as well as to prepare Christian youth for useful service to society.
