Five Nights at Freddy's VR: Help Wanted (often abbreviated to FNaF VR: HW and FNaF VR) is a virtual reality first person survival horror video game developed by Steel Wool Studios and published by ScottGames and Lionsgate Games. It is the third spin-off of the Five Nights at Freddy's series, the first two being FNaF World and Ultimate Custom Night. The game was released on May 28, 2019 on Steam, PlayStation Store, and Oculus VR. It is not yet released on the Oculus Quest, however, there are plans to port the game over to the Oculus Quest in the coming months.

Gameplay

There are 40 minigames that the player can play in Normal Mode or in Black Light Mode. The modalities are:

FNaF 1

A recreation of Five Nights at Freddy's 1 with the main difference being that the cameras don’t drain power.

FNaF 2

A recreation of the second game of the saga with the main difference being the removal of the Withered Animatronics and Flashlight Battery.

FNaF 3

A recreation of the third game of the saga with the main difference being the removal of Phantom Chica, Phantom Marionette and the ability to do other things while the system is rebooting.

Dark Rooms

This series of minigames takes place in a room (which appears to be a rendition of Five Nights At Freddy's 4) with the only method of defense being a flashlight. Most minigames in this set revolve around using the flashlight to find and stop any animatronics hiding, such as Plushtrap, Nightmare Balloon Boy, Plushbaby, and others.

Parts and Service

In this series of minigames the player must follow HandUnit's instructions to repair the Classic Four (Bonnie, Chica, Freddy and Foxy respectively) animatronics. The game mechanics are heavily reminiscent of Operation, requiring the player to remove/insert parts without touching the edges of the corresponding holes, etc.

Vent Repair

In this series of minigames the player repairs the Ventilation in multiple Freddy Fazbear's locations. This usually involves interacting with objects including buttons, levers, and gears to solve puzzles.

Night Terrors

This series of minigames is heavily inspired by Five Nights at Freddy's 4. These minigames take place in a bedroom (another rendition of Five Nights At Freddy's 4) and revolve around using the flashlight as well as doors and closets for defense from Nightmare and Funtime Animatronics.

Plot

In an attempt to counter their reputation as dangerous (partially caused by the FNaF franchise itself[1]), Fazbear Entertainment has commissioned the Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience, a virtual reality game based on the legends about the various locations. During development, the development team was sent a box full of parts from the old animatronics, particularly their PCBs. Instructed to scan these into their system to expedite the game's development, they inadvertently release a malevolent entity (in the form of a stylized version of "Springtrap") into the game. It is referred to as Glitchtrap in the games files. The player can find glitchy cassette tapes scattered throughout the game, which contain logs recorded by a female employee working on the game. As the tapes are gathered the entity becomes more real and gets closer to the player when on the Main Menu, until it confronts you in which it attempts to take over the player's body, and get out into reality.

Development

On August 19, 2018, Cawthon confirmed on his Steam thread that he would be making a Five Nights at Freddy's virtual-reality game.[2] On March 25, 2019, during Sony Interactive Entertainment's State of Play live stream, announcing several new games coming to the PlayStation 4, a trailer announcing the game was shown.[3] Teaser images were released and retracted on the same day due to copyright referencing of models used.
