Forest Gate Community School is the best performing community school in Newham after 71 per cent of pupils achieved A* to C grades in five or more GCSEs in 2015.
It is a mixed comprehensive secondary school in the London Borough of Newham, East London,[1] led by head teacher Simon Elliott.
In 2015, the school was rated the most improved in Newham and among the most improved in London after results went up 17 per cent on the previous year.
The school also runs a scholarship programme that has seen five pupils win places at the UK’s top independent schools.
The school is situated in Forest Lane, close to Forest Gate railway station.
The chair of governors is Jan Tallis.

Ofsted
The school received an ”good" rating at an Ofsted inspection in 2009. Inspectors described the school as outstanding in two respects: the management of teaching and learning, and students' social, moral, spiritual and cultural development.
History
The school was built by architects Colquhoun and Miller in 1965 to replace Whitehall Place School Senior Mixed School. It was opened in February 1966 by The Right Honourable Sir F. Elwyn Jones, who was the Labour MP for West Ham South at the time. It was originally called Forest Gate County High School.
Remodelling
The school underwent a £15m remodelling in 2011, as part of the London Borough Newham’s Building Schools for the Future Programme.
This included the introduction of a new four court sports hall, an open plan breakout space and a new passenger lift and staircase.
The school also has an on-site gym, which can be used by the public outside of school hours.
Admissions
Forest Gate Community School is a council local authority run comprehensive with an open admissions policy for pupils aged 11–16.
The London Borough of Newham is the Admissions Body for Forest Gate Community School.[2]
