Forever the Sickest Kids is an American pop rock band from Dallas, Texas. In issue 228 of Alternative Press, the group was named the number one underground band in the "22 Best Underground Bands". Their debut album, Underdog Alma Mater, was released on April 29, 2008 through Universal Motown Records. Their newest, self-titled album was released on March 1, 2011.

Currently, the band has yet to be signed as Universal Motown has closed down.

History

Early projects and formation (2004–late 2006)

In Dallas, Texas, early before the formation of the band, Marc Stewart had originally met Kent Garrison during high school, both who related to each other for their same musical interests. When Garrison later went to college and met Jonathan Cook, the two discussed of forming a band, called The Flipside. Garrison had contacted Stewart and informed him of the idea. Cook would take on lead vocals, Garrison on bass guitar, and Stewart on lead guitar. Stewart's stepbrother, Kyle Burns, soon joined and played drums for the band and local friend Craig Calloway was recruited for a place on rhythm guitar. The band had went on to play at numerous local shows and released an independent eponymous EP.[3]

Around the same time in the area, childhood friends Austin Bello and Caleb Turman had formed an acoustic/electronic project called Been Bradley. Although never releasing any official albums or EPs, many of their songs were released online through their MySpace profile, such as "All for Angela" and "X Me Out."[3]

When both bands eventually came to an end, Cook came into contact with Bello and Turman, and it was suggested that both bands could join together as one and form a new band. The idea was agreed with and their new band, Forever the Sickest Kids, was formed. Cook remained on vocals, Turman took on rhythm guitar and vocals, Bello on bass guitar and vocals, Stewart on lead guitar, Burns on drums, and Garrison switching to keyboard. Calloway did not take part of the band and would later be apart of the band Artist vs. Poet as a guitarist.[3]

Label signing and Underdog Alma Mater (late 2006–2009)

Merely days after the formation of Forever the Sickest Kids, Cook accidentally spent $350 that the band did not have on PureVolume to receive a front page placement of a song, in which they also did not have any songs written yet. The band then quickly contacted producer Geoff Rockwell and managed to write the song "Hey Brittany" and have it recorded in a studio. "Hey Brittany" was a success and had received many plays and views on the Internet. The band then landed on record deal with Universal Motown in April of 2007. They released their first EP, Television Off, Party On, with the label on July 3. Two more EPs, entitled The Sickest Warped Tour EP and Hot Party Jamz were soon followed months afterward.

On April 1, 2008, the band released their first single, entitled "Whoa Oh! (Me vs. Everyone)", and it was followed by a music video soon after. It was then announced that the band's debut album entitled Underdog Alma Mater, was going to be released on April 29. The album sold well and was soon followed by the band's second single from the album, called "She's a Lady", which was released on July 14. The music video for "She's a Lady" was released shortly afterward.

The band went on the 2008 Alternative Press tour from March 14 to May 2. They played with Metro Station, The Cab, Danger Radio and The Maine on their first headlining tour, and later performed on the 2008 Vans Warped Tour. They appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on June 12, performing "Whoa Oh! (Me vs. Everyone)". The band then headed to Tokyo, Japan to perform at the annual Summer Sonic Festival. In late September, the band undertook a brief headlining tour in the UK, after Cobra Starship, the original headliners, postponed their tour. The band also held the Sassy Back tour throughout October and November with Cobra Starship and other bands.

On April 26, 2009, Forever the Sickest Kids, We the Kings, The Tattle-Tales, and several other people were injured in an incident with the Philadelphia Police Department at the Theatre of the Living Arts, a venue the bands played at on the Bamboozle Road Tour. [4] Forever the Sickest Kids went on to play at the 2009 Vans Warped Tour from July 22 to August 26.

In June, it was announced that Underdog Alma Mater was going to be re-released as a deluxe edition album. The deluxe edition of the album would feature the original twelve songs from Underdog Alma Mater, and seventeen additional tracks that were mainly demos and acoustics from the band's earlier days. The deluxe edition also featured a DVD that included recorded live shows of the band, music videos, and much other footage. The deluxe edition was released on July 7, 2009.

The Weekend: Friday (mid 2009–2010)

On October 30, the band released a new single called "What Do You Want from Me". It was announced that the band would be releasing a new EP entitled The Weekend: Friday on November 17 and "What Do You Want from Me" would be included in it. On November 12, the entire EP was streamed on the band's MySpace profile. A music video for "What Do You Want from Me" was later released in late December.

In April of 2010, the band released two prequel videos to their upcoming single and music video "She Likes (Bittersweet Love)" on their YouTube account. The official full music video was released on April 19. As soon as it was released, it was selected as Kerrang!'s video of the week.

The band then supported The Downtown Fiction, All Time Low, Boys Like Girls, Third Eye Blind, and LMFAO on The Bamboozle Roadshow 2010. Along with numerous other supporting acts, including 3OH!3, Good Charlotte, Cartel, and Simple Plan.

Forever the Sickest Kids (2010–present)

A single from the upcoming album was released on YouTube on June 5, 2010. It is called Keep on Bringing Me Down. Another song leaked, entitled "Get Over Yourself", on YouTube as well.

Forever the Sickest Kids just recently[when?] ended "The Summer Camp for the Dope Awesome Kids Tour" which featured The Scene Aesthetic, The Ready Set, A Cursive Memory and Phone Calls from Home.

During October 2010, Forever the Sickest Kids supported Bowling for Soup on their UK and Ireland tour, along with A and The Dollyrots.

On November 25, Jonathan Cook revealed through his newly created Tumblr account that they would not be releasing the new mini-LP The Weekend: Saturday in the foreseeable future. Instead they would be releasing a self-titled album. The band explained their decision with this statement on their Tumblr "We went into the studio with David Bendeth to record 5 songs for our next release of The Weekend: Friday, but whilst we were in the process of pre-production and tracking our band came to an all-inclusive decision that we wanted to record 5-6 more songs and go all out and create another full length album." Cook did not mention anything about the future of The Weekend series. While on the Christmas Pageant Tour with Family Force 5 in December 2010, Jonathan Cook announced that their self-titled album will be released on March 1, 2011. Also while on the Christmas Pageant Tour, the band began to play a new song from the self-titled album called Life of the Party. The band was on Stickam on November 8, 2010, and they leaked a new song "I Guess You Can Say Things Are Getting Pretty Serious" from the album.

On January 10, 2011 Kent Garrison posted on his blog that he was leaving the band.[5]

On February 11, the band released a teaser video[6] for the new album featuring the band performing a new song with no vocal tracks heard. On February 15, a new song entitled "Forever Girl" was released.[7] The album was released on March 1.

In April 2011, Forever The Sickest Kids set out on the headlining "Spring Break Your Heart" tour with Breathe Carolina, We Are the In Crowd, This Century, Tonight Alive and Before Their Eyes.

During the summer of 2011, Forever The Sickest Kids played a series of mall tours including the Zumiez Couch Tour and Simon dTOUR Live.

On September 22, 2011 Marc Stewart confirmed on Twitter that he was leaving the band: "To clear up the rumors I have left FTSK. All of the fans I met along the way were amazing and I hope I had the same Impact you all had on me". The band confirmed this with the tweet: "Some may already know @marcFTSK is now married we wish him the best of luck & thank him for 4yrs of hard work & memories!"

On February 16–19, 2012, Ayala Malls sponsored an event called LIV5, held in 4 malls. Where Forever the Sickest Kids performed with A+ Dropouts, The Summer Set, The Ready Set, and A Rocket to the Moon in the Philippines.

Shortly after that, the bands (excluding A+ Dropouts) headed to Australia to perform at the Soundwave (Australian music festival) alongside System of A Down, Slipknot, Angels and Airwaves, Cobra Starship and many more.

The Band's Self-Titled album has now sold over 125,000 copies in the US alone, placing them in the top 30 rock albums of 2011.

The Band has been rumored to have been in negotiations with Warner Brothers Records, Sony Music Group, EMI, and Redbull. FTSK released a new single entitled "Shut the Front Door (Too Young for This)" on October 28, 2011. In 2011 released a Christmas Single entitled "Mistletoe is for Quitters" on December 5. From February–March 2012 the boys performed, for the second time, as a part of the Soundwave tour.

Via Jonathan's twitter, there are rumors that the band will perform at 2012 Warped and Bamboozle, though neither are confirmed.

It has been confirmed that Forever The Sickest will play at both Leeds and Hatfield Slam Dunk festival in the UK in May. 3 additional dates have also been added to Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow where they will tour with Cartel and It Boys!
