"I Need You for Christmas" is a promotional single recorded by Romanian singer Inna for the French deluxe edition, called Very Hot, of her debut studio album Hot (2009), and a French 2011 re-release of the record. It was released on 1 January 2010 by Roton. A Christmas song, "I Need You for Christmas" was recorded at the Play & Win Studios in Constanța, Romania, with the writing and production handled by Play & Win. To promote the song, an accompanying music video was uploaded onto Inna's YouTube channel on 12 December 2009. It was filmed by Tom Boxer at an ice rink at the AFI Palace mall in Cotroceni, Romania, showing the singer ice skating with other people. Commercially, "I Need You for Christmas" reached number 146 on Russia's Tophit airplay chart in January 2010. Romanian website InfoMusic included the single on their list of best Christmas songs recorded by Romanian artists.

Background and release

"I Need You for Christmas", a Christmas song,[1][2] was recorded, mixed and mastered at the Play & Win Studios in Constanța, being written and produced Play & Win.[3] It was was featured on a French deluxe edition of Inna's debut studio album Hot (2009), called Very Hot, as well as on a 2011 re-release of the record in the same country.[4][5] The track was also made available for digital download in Poland on 14 November 2014 by Magic Records.[6] Miruna Haican, writing for Romanian website InfoMusic, included "I Need You for Christmas" on her list of "top 10 Christmas song recorded by Romanian artists".[1]

Music video

An accompanying music video for the song was shot in early December 2009 by Tom Boxer at the ice rink of the AFI Palace mall in Cotroceni, Romania. The clip was filmed in about five hours and features the appearances of Romanian band Crazy Win, Play & Win and one of Inna's dancers.[7] It was uploaded onto the singer's YouTube channel on 12 December 2009.[8] The clip commences with shots of the mall, following which Inna, sporting a white overcoat and black leggings, is presented ice skating along with various other people. A man dressed like Santa Claus is also shown later on the ice rink and is also presented in a shopping cart with others. Other scenes show Inna skating with kids and her with a dog. The clip ends with the singer and two other females before the screen becomes dark.[8]

Charts

"I Need You For Christmas" debuted at number 209 on Russia's Tophit airplay chart on the week ending 20 December 2009, rising to number 154 the next week. The single reached its peak position at number 146 on 3 January 2010, further staying three more weeks on the chart, falling to positions 169, 233 and 300, respectively.[9]
