Ian John Lawlor (born 27 October 1994) is an Irish professional footballer who plays for Manchester City as a goalkeeper.

Club career

Born in Dublin, Lawlor joined local club Home Farm, where he honed his skills by watching videos of Oliver Kahn.[1] While still in school in Chanel College, Coolock, he was scouted by Mick Collins of Manchester City, who he joined in 2010. He turned professional in 2012 and has competed alongside Angus Gunn and Eirik Johansen for the goalkeeper's jersey in the club's under-21 side.[2] He joined Barnet on an emergency loan in December 2015, with injuries to Jamie Stephens and Graham Stack leaving the Bees with no senior keepers.[3] He made his debut in an away game against Yeovil Town.[4] Lawlor completed his loan spell at Barnet after 5 games and later went on to join Bury on 7 January 2016 until the end of the 2015-16 season.[5] He made his début for Bury in a FA Cup tie against Bradford City on 9 January 2016.[6] The game finished 0-0, with Lawlor keeping his first clean sheet for his new club.[6] Lawlor went on to make 12 league appearances, keeping five clean-sheets,[7] and two more FA Cup appearances for the Shakers.[7] He returned to Manchester City on 30 June 2016.

International career

Lawlor has represented his native Ireland throughout youth level, though primarily as second choice to Joe Coll. In 2014, he was called up to the senior squad following an injury to Rob Elliot, appearing on the bench for friendlies against Italy, Costa Rica and Portugal.[8] In October 2016, Lawlor was called into the senior squad again for World Cup qualifying following an injury to Keiren Westwood.[9]
