Ianis Hagi (born 22 October 1998) is a Romanian professional footballer who plays for Italian club ACF Fiorentina mainly as an attacking midfielder.
Club career
Hagi was born in Istanbul, Turkey, when his father Gheorghe was playing in the city for Galatasaray SK.[1][2] He joined the Gheorghe Hagi football academy at the age of 10, and made his Liga I debut on 5 December 2014 with FC Viitorul Constanța at the age of only 16, when he came on as a last-minute substitute for Silviu Pană in a 1–2 home defeat against FC Botoșani, the coach of the team being his father, Hagi Sr..[3]
On 29 May 2015, Ianis scored his first goal as a senior, contributing to a 4–4 draw against the same opponent whilst also acting as a starter for the first time.[4] In June, Adrian Mutu, who at the time shared the all-time goalscoring record for the Romanian national team with Hagi Sr., announced that the son would be joining Serie A club ACF Fiorentina for a €1,000,000 fee,[5][6] but nothing came of it,[7] and he eventually gained team captaincy.
Hagi scored his second league goal against ACS Poli Timișoara, in a 4–0 home win on 21 August 2015,[8] a few days after having missed a penalty against CS Concordia Chiajna.[9]
On 10 July 2016, Hagi joined Fiorentina.[10]
International career
Hagi represented Romania at under-15, under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-19 level.
Personal life
Hagi is sponsored by Nike.[11]
