Idaho Falls High School (IFHS), commonly referred to as I.F.,[9] is a high school located in central Idaho Falls, Idaho. The school's current building opened in 1952, though the school itself has been in operation for well over a century.[1][2] IFHS is one of two high schools in Idaho School District 91, along with Skyline High School. Its sports teams are called the Tigers, and the mascot is known as Teeger.[8]

History

Idaho Falls High School is the oldest high school in the city of Idaho Falls, originating around the turn of the 20th century. The present building has only been in use since 1952, however. The school's original building, near the present-day location of the Wesley W. Deist Aquatic Center, was converted into a junior high (Central JHS), which burned down during the 1970s.[citation needed] Also in 1952, the City of Idaho Falls constructed the Civic Auditorium, which adjoins the school[1]. The Auditorium remains a major center for performing arts in the area. The school's newspaper is the Tiger Times.[3]Paul Haack wrote the school song "Dear Old I.F. High" in 1927[10]

Academics

James Francis, teacher of Advanced Placement European History and Advanced Placement United States History, was the recipient of the 1997 Idaho Teacher of the Year Award.[11]
