Early life and career
This section needs additional citations for verification. (May 2012) |
Their parents are from Mexico City and the United States (Mexican father and American mother). In 2001, when they were 18 and 15 years old, respectively, they began writing lyrics and songs with their father. They were signed under the Warner label on April 18, 2005.[1] Jesse plays the piano, the guitar, and sings some backup for the songs, while Joy plays the guitar and is the lead vocalist.[1][2]
Introduced at the 2005 Mexican Teletón, Jesse & Joy released their debut album Esta Es Mi Vida in 2006 through Warner Music Mexico. Their debut single, "Espacio Sideral", was certified Gold by the Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas (AMPROFON). The album reached the top twenty on the Mexican Album Chart, was certified Platinum by the AMPROFON, and helped the duo to win the Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist the next year.[6][7]
In 2008, the duo released the Esto Es Lo Que Soy EP featuring "Espacio Sideral", "Ya No Quiero", "Volveré,” "Llegaste Tú", and a new song called "Esto Es Lo Que Soy,” used in the Mexican telenovela Las Tontas No Van al Cielo, starring Jaqueline Bracamontes and Jaime Camil.[8]Their single "Llegaste tú" was used in Televisa's 2007 soap opera Tormenta en el Paraiso.
In 2009, their second studio album, Electricidad, was released. The album was certified Gold by the AMPROFON and included singles "Adiós” and "Chocolate". ¿Con Quién Se Queda El Perro? was released as their third studio album in 2011. The album was certified 2× Platinum by the AMPROFON, and included singles "Me Voy", "¡Corre!" and "La de la Mala Suerte".
In 2011, Jesse & Joy released ¿Con Quién Se Queda El Perro?, which, along with their songs, received six Latin Grammy Awards and five nominations. In 2012, their single "¡Corre!" was used on Televisa's 2012 soap opera La que no podia amar.[9]
At the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards, Jesse & Joy were nominated for four Grammy Awards, winning three of them: Best Contemporary Pop Album for ¿Con Quién Se Queda El Perro?, and Song and Record of the Year for "¡Corre!". Additionally, Carlos López Estrada received the Latin Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video for "Me Voy". On December 5, 2012, ¿Con Quién Se Queda El Perro? received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Pop Album.[10]
At the end of 2015, the pop duo released their fourth studio album titled “Un Besito Más”[11], which was followed by a momentous 2016.[12] The group added to their list of accomplishments a successful tour through the US[13] and Latin America, 4 Latin GRAMMY® Nominations[14] (in the categories of Record of the year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year & Best Contemporary Pop Album), their 6th Latin GRAMMY® as “Best Contemporary Pop Album”, in addition to being part of the “Person of the Year” gala, a GRAMMY® Nomination and the release of their first ever English songs, ‘Echoes of Love’ and ‘More Than Amigos’ storming the UK’s airwaves with both being playlisted on BBC Radio 2.[15]
The Independent, one of the most important British newspapers, described album opener ‘Echoes of Love’ as “true to their `Latin/folk roots while introducing distinctly Adele-style epicness to the vocals”[16]. The original Spanish version ‘Ecos de Amor’ appeared on their fourth studio work ‘Un Besito Más’ (One More Kiss), winner of the Latin Grammy (2016) for Best Pop Vocal Album. Produced by Fraser T Smith and Martin Terefe (Jason Mraz, James Morrison, Shawn Mendes) - ‘Un Besito Mas’ debuted at number 1[17] across Latin American and on the US Latin Chart.
The Huerta siblings had an impressive start to 2017 winning the GRAMMY® Award for Best Latin Pop Album for Un Besito Más[18][19][20][21] and the release of their first dual-language album, Jesse & Joy which contained songs from their past four studio releases and biggest hits such as: “Corre!”, “Espacio Sideral”, “Echoes of Love”[22][23], among others. They rounded out 2017 with appearances at The Latin American Music Awards[24], The Latin Grammy’s Person on the Year gala honoring Alejandro Sanz.[25][26]
Their impactful live show has traveled throughout the world: more than half a million concertgoers experienced the Un Besito Más Tour, which visited more than 15 countries and nearly 100 cities, including Buenos Aires, Madrid, Barcelona, Santiago de Chile, New York and Los Angeles.[27][28]
2018 will see brand new music and live performances from Jesse & Joy, kicking off in February at Chile’s internationally-acclaimed Viña Del Mar Festival[29], followed by the band’s heralded return to Mexico City[30][31] following their last sold out show.
