Jonathan J. Breene is an Austaralian-American businessman involved in the real estate and hospitality industries. He is the founder of The Setai Group, which specializes in luxury residential and boutique hotel properties, [1][2][3] and also co-founder of Mahaman and Azotels, both residential and hospitality development companies, with AMAN founder, Adrian Zecha.

Education

Breene completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Queensland - Gatton College in Australia, where he earned a Bachelor of Business in Real Estate Appraisal. He graduated with a master's degree in construction management from Queensland University of Technology, Australia, and later obtained a Master’s in Real Estate Development from Columbia University in New York City.[4]

Career

Breene began his career as an executive at Millennium Partners, a New York-based developer focused on luxury condominium.[5][6]

Breene was involved in the creation of The Setai[7], a luxury residential condominium tower at 40 Broad Street, as well as the development of the private island of Java on The World Islands in Dubai.[8] In partnership with r Adrian Zecha, Breene co-founded Mahaman.[9][10][11]

In addition, he has played a role in the planning and development of luxury projects around the world. Among these is The Vendome, a high-end condominium located in Dallas, and Amanyara, a resort in Turks & Caicos. He was also involved in the development of Norman’s Cay, a private island in the Exumas, Bahamas, and a beachfront hotel and villa project in Jose Ignacio, Punta del Este.[12][13][14]

Collaborations with Adrian Zecha

Breene's first collaboration with Adrian Zecha was at The Setai Miami Beach, located in Miami's South Beach neighborhood. The hotel and residential project was designed by Jean Michel Gathy. They are also co-founders of Mahaman, a luxury real estate and hospitality development group, and of Azotels, which operates high-end hospitality projects such as Azerai in Vietnam and Azumi in Japan.[15]

In addition, Zecha and Breene co-founded MAHA, a luxury residential and resort Development Company. The first MAHA property was completed in Beijing, China and includes a luxury condominium building and private club.[16]

Currently, they are partnering on The Guenoc Valley Project, a 24,000-acre property straddling Lake County and Napa County in California. This project aims to develop luxury residences, resorts, a winery, and polo and golf experiences.[17]

Philanthropy and Other Roles

Breene served on the Board of Trustees of International House, New York, a nonprofit residence for international students.[18] His contributions to philanthropy have been acknowledged by Queen Elizabeth II Bravery Medal.[19]
