Jupiter Ascending is an upcoming science fiction film written, produced and directed by The Wachowskis. Set in the distant future, the film centers on a lowly janitor (Mila Kunis) who learns that she has a great genetic destiny.

The film's other producer is Grant Hill, who produced two previous Wachowski films, Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas.

Plot synopsis

Jupiter Jones is an unlucky Russian immigrant who cleans toilets for a living. She encounters Caine, an interplanetary warrior whom the Queen of the Universe sent to kill Jupiter, but they fall in love. Caine tells Jupiter that the stars were pointing to an extraordinary event on the night she was born, and that her DNA could mark her as the universe's next leader.[1][2][3]

Filming

The film is a co-production between Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures.[7] Roberto Malerba and Bruce Berman serve as executive producers.[8] Filming also took place at Ely Cathedral, England.[9][10] Principal photography commenced at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden on April 2, 2013. The production will remain in the London studio through June, then move to Chicago, Illinois for completion.[8]

Music

The film's music will be composed by Michael Giacchino, who also scored the Wachowskis' 2008 film Speed Racer.[11]

Release

The film is set to be released on July 25, 2014.[12]
