Kalenna was born on August 13, 1982 to Donna Harper and Randy Howard, in Philadelphia, PA. When Kalenna was 3 she moved from Philadelphia and began to travel the world as a military daughter. |

Music was clearly in Kalenna's blood at a very young age. Her mother, Donna R. Harper would sing to her as a child and make sure Kalenna was always involved in the church growing up. Her father, Randy was an aspiring rapper. To this day, Kalenna even has all of his rap books. Growing up as a military daughter, Kalenna was exposed to various types of music. She encountered Gospel, Classical, Rock, Pop, Funk, Hip-Hop, Reggae and even Opera. While living in Alaska, Kalenna was exposed to the Native tribal music. |
|||
Kalenna moved around very much as a child because of her dad being in the military. She attended three different high schools, Richmond Academy, Hephzibah High School and Fort Meade, which she graduated from. |

When it comes to music, Kalenna has always had that “IT” factor. As a child, she always had something to say and music helped her express her feelings towards things. At nine years old, she woke up and knew music was definitely something she could see herself doing in the future. Kalenna credits her prayer for strength that keeps her motivated when times get hard. She then also remembers the many people she has counting on her and that pushes her to continue. When it comes to Kalenna's sound she gives credit to Michael Jackson, Shelia E, Prince, Darryl Coley, James Moore, Jimi Hendrix, Marilyn Manson, Simon & Garfunkel, Soul Soul, Whitney Houston, Lauryn Hill and Bob Marley as influential artists who inspired her sound. |
