Kalpana 2 is a 2016 Indian Kannada-language horror comedy film directed by R. Anantha Raju and produced by Dr. Rajendra along with Shilpa Srinivas and Swamee.[1] It is the second installment after Kalpana (2012) and a remake of the Tamil film Kanchana 2.[2] The film features Upendra, Priyamani and Avantika Shetty in the lead roles.[3] The film's musical score is by Arjun Janya. The film was dubbed and released in Telugu as Kalpana 3 (2017) and[4] also in Hindi as Bhagmati 2 (2017) by Goldmines Telefilms.

Cast

Production

In August 2015, post the success of Upendra's venture Uppi 2, it was announced that the actor's next film would be Kalpana 2 and Naganna would be the director with Shilpa Srinivas producing the project.[5] The film was initially planned to go on floors in September 2015. However the director walked out of the project and R. Anantha Raju was roped in to direct the film with Dr. Rajendra of Kalla Police fame agreeing to produce the film along with Shilpa Srinivas. The film officially began in November 2015 at the Bull Temple in Bangalore.[6] Actress Priyamani was roped in to play the role essayed by Nithya Menen in the original version. Avantika Shetty of Rangi Taranga fame got her second assignment from Upendra to reprise the role originally played by Taapsee Pannu in the Tamil film.[7] During a shoot of a Kabbadi match for the film, Upendra sprained his ankle and suffered an injury.[8]

Soundtrack

The film's score and soundtrack is composed by Arjun Janya. In April 2016, it was reported that actor Puneeth Rajkumar has lent his voice for a patriotic song penned by V. Nagendra Prasad and that would be the introductory song for Upendra in the film.[9] Another song was reported to consist many of the film titles of Upendra's earlier films and the lyrics were penned by Kaviraj.
