Popular culture references to the Let's Play webseries Game Grumps and its hosts have been found in various media. Some references have ranged from cameos and names to quotes from various episodes. The series has created enough appeal by fans and various media outlets for it to be easily recognised.

Comics

Doctor Who

VG Cats

  • In comic "#298: Factoring Your Fear," Arin Hanson makes a cameo as a contestant on The Tester with a container filled with cockroaches on his head.[2]

Internet

Gaia Online

  • One of the items players can use is the "Tough Talker (Oh so Grump)" facial expression, which is based on the Game Grumps caricatures from the show's intro.[3]

Video games

Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures

  • In the level "Blizzard of Balls," Hanson can be found on cloud. When talked to, he'll say, "Don't be a Grump, take these!" with the Angry Video Game Nerd responding, "Thanks, EgoRaptor. Now I'm not so Grump!"[4]

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!

  • In the game's credits, one of the comments left by one of the game's developers, Ashley Rochelle, reads "Mycaruba." This is a reference to the Game Grumps' playthrough of Out of This World.[5]

Default Dan

  • Typing "godanny" at the level select screen will replace Dan's face with host Dan Avidan's.[6]

DLC Quest

  • In "Live Freemium Die Hard," one of the gravestones which can be found reads, "Here Lies: Villager Jon (???-2013) Killed by the Creatures. Real Talk? He Wasn't Paying Attention." This is a reference to the show and its host Jon Jafari.[7]

Papers, Please

  • An NPC players may encounter is named Arin Hansonov, a reference to Hanson.[8]

Paradigm

PewDiePie's Tuber Simulator

  • One of the pre-set titles for the videos that you can make is "Racist Bassist and Bummer Drummer", a reference to the joke from the playthrough of Super Tennis.[10]
  • Three of the customizable hair options you can choose are of the animated Grump heads of Arin, Danny and Suzy.[11]

Shooting Stars!

  • One of the bosses you can encounter is Grump Dan, a reference to Avidan. His opening line is "Sick Marmalade, Grandpa!", a reference to the Game Grumps' playthrough of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.[12]

Shovel Knight

  • In the "Hall of Champions" level, one of the portraits which can be found of Hanson's animated Game Grumps caricature.[13]

Suits: A Business RPG

  • In the Media District, parodies of various YouTubers called "GoobTubers" can be found on the 2nd level of the Internet Building. Two of the GoobTubers are Ego Ham, a parody of Egoraptor, and Birdman, a parody of JonTron.[14]

World of Warcraft: Legion

  • In Bradenbrook in the area Val'sharah, three NPCs can be found named Arin Hanson, Jon Jafari and Ross O'Donovan, named after the show's hosts.[15]
