Little India in the city of Ipoh Malaysia, is an ethnic Indian enclave.Little India is also famous for Malaysian Indian cuisine.It also serve as main commercial and cultural activities for Indians in Ipoh City.Little India is now a main tourist destination in Ipoh City.The place became more lively during festival times like Deepavali, Christmas and Thaipusam

Background

This area is a place where the early immigrants and merchants from India congregated did their thriving business at a time when tin emerged as an important industry in the Kinta Valley. The majority of them were Nattukkotai Chettiar from South India. The population in the area soon grew to 65% Indian and 35% Chinese.[1]

Location

Name of Little India was implies as the area stretching from Jalan Sultan Yussuf to Jalan Lahat became dominated commercially by Indian communities[2]

Economy

Various Indian related business can be found here. Traditional costumes, spices,precious gold and costume jewelry which use semi-precious gems are widely sales by the most of the shops. There also large number of restaurant and cafe which sales Indian culinary.
