Mammomax is a fictional mammoth-shaped human mutant that has appeared in various comic books published by Marvel Comics. He exists in Marvel's main shared universe, known as the Marvel Universe.

Publication history

Mammomax's first appearance was X-Men vol. 2 #161 (November, 2004), and he was created by writer Chuck Austen and artist Salvador Larroca. He appeared in issues #162-164 (November 2004-January 2005).

The character subsequently appeared in Uncanny X-Men #463-466 (October 2005-January 2006), Decimation: House of M - The Day After #1 (January 2006), X-Men: The 198 Files #1 (March 2006), X-Men: The 198 #1-5 (March–July 2006), Uncanny X-Men #469 (April 2006), X-Men #183 (April 2006), Civil War: X-Men #1-2 (September–October 2006), New X-Men #33-34 (February–March 2007), and X-Men: Messiah Complex - Mutant Files (December 2007).

Fictional character biography

When Mammomax first appeared, he was part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants alongside Avalanche, Sabretooth, Exodus, Juggernaut, Nocturne, and Black Tom Cassidy. He participated in an attack on the X-Mansion, which caused massive property damage and the deaths of at least two of its residents.[volume & issue needed]

Iceman defeated him. The entire Brotherhood ended up sucked into the black hole within Xorn's head,[volume & issue needed] which apparently leads to the Mojoverse. The Brotherhood bargained with Mojo, apparently giving him Juggernaut and Nocturne in price for their freedom.[volume & issue needed]

Mammomax next appears after M-Day, on the run from members of the Sapien League with Erg and Peepers.[1] At the Institute's front gates, the X-Men save him from being burned alive.[volume & issue needed] He took up residence on the Institute's grounds with other members of the 198. He also forms a friendship with Erg, Fever Pitch, and Sack.[volume & issue needed] During an outing into Salem Center, he attacks a boy for calling him "Elephant Man", but a "tracking chip", implanted in his head by the Office of National Emergency (O*N*E), disables him before he could do any damage.[2] Mammomax has the device removed by Mister M. The other members of the 198 also have their chips neutralized.[3] Mammomax follows Mr. M during his exodus from the Xavier Institute.[3] He eventually rejoins the Brotherhood.[4]

Mammomax was later captured by the Facility, the Weapon Plus offshoot that was responsible for the creation of X-23. He is used as a test subject for a monster created by the Facility staff. Predator X consumes and kills him.[5] A picture of his skeleton is shown to Mercury, who had also been taken by the organization.[4]

Powers and abilities

Mammomax resembles a bipedal elephant with hands, because of this he is as strong as an elephant and also possess a pair of large ivory tusks which are as durable as an elephant's. Mammomax has invulnerable skin and can also produce a powerful stomach acid, which he can spit out of his mouth and use as a projectile attack.
