Matthew Tuck (born 20 January 1980) is a Welsh musician. He is the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist in the Welsh heavy metal band Bullet for My Valentine. He and the other 3 members of his old band founded Jeff killed John in 1998, but after changing the bassist in 2003, the band was renamed to Bullet For My Valentine.[1] He is also a singer and guitarist in the supergroup AxeWound, which was formed in 2012. He also plays drums, keyboard, and harmonica. He did a collaboration with Max Cavalera of Cavalera Conspiracy and in the Apocalyptica song, "Repressed".

Bullet for My Valentine

Matthew Tuck is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist in the Welsh heavy metal band Bullet for My Valentine. The band formed in 1998 and was originally called Jeff Killed John. After Nick Crandle left, they picked up Jason James as their new bassist and renamed the band Bullet for My Valentine. They have released 4 studio albums and 4 EPs. The band has sold over one million albums in the United States and over 3,000,000 albums worldwide[2] and are the most-successful act in the Kerrang! Awards category of "Best British Band" with three wins.

AxeWound

Tuck is the backing vocalist and rhythm guitarist in the Supergroup AxeWound. He plays alongside Liam Cormier of Cancer Bats, Mike Kingswood of Glamour of the Kill, Joe Copcutt of ZOAX and formerly of Rise to Remain and Jason Bowld of Pitchshifter.[3]

Throat Problems

In November 2006, while on tour with As I Lay Dying and Protest the Hero, Matt suffered from laryngitis, which led to a series of concert cancellations, until early January 2007 when he was able to sing after his recovery period.

On June 22, 2007, it was announced that he needed a tonsillectomy.[4] The band was forced to cancel all of their shows, including their tour as a support band for Metallica.[5] Unable to speak, Tuck wrote that as soon as doctors cleared him he would be in the studio working on the band's next album.[6]

Influences

He has cited Metallica as being his main musical influence. At the age of 14, Tuck discovered the band through MTV when the music video to Enter Sandman aired. This inspired him to be a guitarist. He has also mentioned Iron Maiden, Machine Head, Judas Priest, Pantera, Megadeth, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Bob Seger as being heavy influences in his songwriting.

Equipment

Tuck was previously a long-time user of Jackson guitars, and from 2009 to 2012 used his own signature model based on the Randy Rhoads shape. Since 2012, however, he has been endorsed by B.C. Rich and has received a signature Flying V-shaped guitar, which is now the model he uses as his main instrument. For live performances, Tuck uses Peavey 6505 heads with Mesa Boogie cabinets, as well as Line 6 rack equipment for clean guitar tones.

A detailed gear diagram of Matthew Tucks's 2006 Bullet For My Valentine guitar rig is well-documented.[7]

Personal Life

Tuck married his longterm girlfriend, Charlotte Beedell on 7 September 2013 in London. The couple has a son Evann, born 2010. [8]
