Creation request

[edit]

Please create the associated system message with:

{{edit filter warning
|filter   = 1291
|action   = warn
|friendly = yes
|text = Your edit has triggered an automated [[Wikipedia:Edit filter|edit filter]] because you appear to be requesting a change in the protection level for the example page [[Example Article Name]], which is pre-loaded when you file a new request. Please replace that link (the <code>[[Example Article Name]]</code>) with a link to the article you actually wanted to make a request about, and be sure to provide a reason for the request.

If you're sure you still want to make this edit, go to the bottom of this page and click '{{int:Publishchanges}}' again, and it will be submitted as is. If you believe you received this message in error, you may [[Wikipedia:Edit filter/False positives|report this error]].

If you really meant to request a change in the protection level of [[Example Article Name]], this message can be safely ignored.
}}

for use by Special:AbuseFilter/1291 which I just created. See Wikipedia:Edit filter/Requested#Protection/Unprotection requests for Example Article Name for background. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 22:34, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Done — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:43, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@MSGJ it seems that my use of `pre` tags in the request above hid the fact that the `Example Article Name` link should be wrapped in `nowiki` tags as well, so that the entire link syntax is shown rather than creating a link. In <code>[[Example Article Name]]</code> can you please add `nowiki` tags within the `code` tags but outside of the link itself? I have no idea how to get that to actually show up here in the parsed result of my request, but if you inspect the source of my earlier request you'll see what I mean. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 18:22, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How's that now? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:19, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@MSGJ great, thanks --DannyS712 (talk) 01:40, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Possible change to edit filter text

[edit]

DannyS712, what do you think about a possible change like this to the edit filter text?

|text = Your edit has triggered an automated [[Wikipedia:Edit filter|edit filter]] because you appear to be requesting a change in the protection level for the example page [[Example Article Name]], which is pre-loaded when you file a new request. Please replace that link (the <code><nowiki>[[Example Article Name]]</nowiki></code>) with a link to the article you actually wanted to make a request about, and be sure to provide a reason for the request.

|text = Your edit has triggered an automated [[Wikipedia:Edit filter|edit filter]] because you appear to be requesting a change in the protection level for the example page [[Example Article Name]], which is pre-loaded when you file a new request. Please replace the references to <code>Example Article Name</code> with the name of the article you actually wanted to make a request about, and be sure to provide a reason for the request.

My reason for suggesting this is because the preloaded form requires editors to change the Example Article Name text in the {{pagelinks}} template as well as in the header; and - from looking at recent filter hits (e.g. Special:AbuseLog/37269965) - it seems that it may not currently be clear that the article name needs to be inserted in both locations.

Apologies if I've worded this proposed change badly :) All the best. ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 14:02, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@A smart kitten good catch - I didn't realize that the page name goes in two places (I don't think I've ever made a protection request without using Twinkle or some other tool...). Looks good to me --DannyS712 (talk) 18:30, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Per above. All the best. ‍—‍a smart kitten[meow] 18:33, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
