Michele Louise Specht (/ˈspɛkt/) (born July 24, 1973)[1][2] is an American actress, comedian and voice actress, best known for playing Katie in the VH1 series I Hate My 30's and Doctor McKennah in the webseries, Star Trek Continues.[3]
Biography
Early life
Specht was born and grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After attending Air Academy High School, She enrolled at College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University, earning a Bachelor's Degree of the Arts in Classical Vocal Music Performance and Theatre.
She interned with the now defunct Theatre de la Jeune Lune, and studied abroad in London before completing her degree. After graduation, Specht moved back to London to live and study further for an additional 2 years.
Upon moving to Los Angeles in 1997, she joined the theater company 'Zeitgeist' and continued expanding her talent for creating original performances until 1999 when she became a member of the sketch group, Another Showcase Showdown, and later become part of inaugural cast of what would become Drama 3/4.[4] During that time, she performed both in the HBO Aspen Comedy Arts Festival, and on the HBO Comedy Workshop stage. In 2007, She achieved her breakout role as Katie, an intense and somewhat crazy character in the VH1 series, I Hate My 30's.[5]
Career
Television and film
She has appeared in many feature films including, Politics of Love, and Backyard Wedding. Specht has also made her presence known on television beyond VH1, appearing in a broad range of shows ranging from comedies such as Kickin' It, and New Girl to Dramas such as CSI:NY. Specht also has had reoccurring roles in online series such as Nuka Break, Aperture R&D, and currently portrays the Starship Enterprise's first ever ship's counselor,
Dr. Elise McKennah in Star Trek Continues.[6]
Voice acting
In addition to her on screen roles, Specht has voiced characters in several anime series dubbed by the Funimation company, including Ouran High School Host Club, Tsubasa Chronicle, Claymore, and Fractale as well as video game roles that range from Wang Yi in Dynasty Warriors 7 (Xtreme Legends), Corporal Simone Cole in Clive Barker's Jericho, to Betty the Personality Core in Aperture R&D.
