Established in 1996, in Maadi, the University changed its location to Cairo-Ismailia Road following the second millennium.

MIU International Collaborations

As part of its continuous endeavor to add an international dimension to its academic excellency, MIU aims to establish ties with different universities around the world. It recognizes the necessity to prepare graduates who are internationally competent communicators, negotiators, teachers, policy-makers, politicians, and entrepreneurs. Hence came the idea of establishing MIU’s International Office that offers cross-cultural programs with various renowned international universities.

Criticism

MIU is constantly being criticized by either its student body or alumni for its poor administration, staff, and ludicrous policies. It is not uncommon to find student file complaints only to find the administration ignore their claims. The result is that students find themselves either failing or dropping courses due to unsolved problems relating to everything from incorrect grading of test papers to unfair attendance policies.

Similar criticism can be seen regarding unqualified professors, extremely high prices for basic products sold in the cafeteria, classrooms and lecture halls that are in poor condition, and an increasingly overcrowded campus. In fairness however it should be noted that the MIU administration has recently started to take measures to address its criticism.

Student Parking

Due to the increasing student population, the original campus parking lot, which is divided to accommodate both staff and students, has grown to be too small to the point where it has become a challenge to actually find a decent parking space. The end result was that students were forced to park off-road adjacent to the parking lot, only to find themselves being fined by traffic police or worse yet, having their cars hit or dented by oncoming traffic.

Recently, a new parking lot was constructed but it is located quite far away from the main campus and requires a hefty walk, a huge burden on students considering that the main campus is located parallel to a major highway and there is no easily accessible walkway of any sort between the new parking lot and the main campus. For this reason, most students still refuse to park in it and competition to find a parking spot in the original parking lot can still be seen today, leading to the increasing annoyance of double or even triple parking!

Unqualified Professors

One issue regarding unqualified professors has to do with their basic understanding of the English language. Currently, the MIU requires students that do not have a strong command of the English language to take anywhere between 2 and 6 English courses, depending on their fluency in English, in order to graduate. This is to backup the claim that lectures are conducted in 100% English and so students that do not have a strong understanding of English will not be able to excel.

This is seen as unfair by students and as a cheap way for the university to charge them for more courses then needed, since it is both very rare to find classes conducted in 100% English, as claimed, and that most professors themselves have a very poor command of English.

Unfair Attendance Policies

One of the huge problems students are facing in the M.I.U. is the unfair attendance policies . Students are orcfed to attend all classes allover the academic year till the last days before exams , every student have a maximum of 25% of classes absence unless ; dropping the over-unattended course will be the result . Students had made several complains all over the past years to change this policy but there was no answer .
