Mosaic was well-received upon release, with praise being directed towards a perceived return to peak musical, creative, and conceptual form. In a highly favorable review written by the staff of Rock Cellar Magazine, titled Best New Music: 311 Challenge Themselves with the Layered and Richly Rewarding New Album, ‘Mosaic’, they wrote, "Overall, Mosaic is one of the most intriguing and engaging albums 311’s released to date." [11]

In a positive review from AllMusic, author Neil Z. Yeung notes that "it's a triumphant declaration from these vets, a rousing promise that the party has yet to end," giving the album four stars.[5]

In another review from Lisa Whealy of CrypticRock.com, Whealy states that the album is "an artistic reflection of their appreciation to fans that go to show after show, supporting the band through their creative ride," also saying that it is "an album that stands tall next to prior 311 efforts, Mosaic is certainly the musical definition of the word and it deserves 4.5 out of 5 stars."[7]

Commercial performance

Mosaic debuted at number six on the US Billboard 200 with 39,000 album-equivalent units, of which 37,000 were pure album sales.[12]
