The NIO Formula E Team is a British motor racing team currently competing in the FIA Formula E Championship, an electric racing series. The team is owned by NIO and based in Oxford, UK.

The NIO Formula E Team, previously known as China Racing Formula E Team and NEXTEV TCR Formula E Team, has participated in the FIA Formula E Championship ever since its inaugural season (2014), winning the first FIA Formula E Drivers' Championship with Nelson Piquet Jr.[1]

History

2014-2015 Inaugural season

NIO first joined the Formula E championship series in its inaugural 2014–2015 season with their counterpart formerly known as China Racing Formula E Team. For the season, the team had Ho-Pin Tung and Charles Pic drive the #88 car, and Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet Jr. drive the #99 car. They team went on to win the inaugural FIA Formula E Drivers' Championship in July 2015 with Nelson Piquet Jr., and also winning two races, the 2015 Long Beach ePrix and the 2015 Moscow ePrix.

2015-2016 Second season

The second season in the Formula E, allowed teams to be able to develop new powertrains for the season. The team used its own NextEV powertrain for the season.
