Narsi Namdev is a village in Hingoli taluka of Hingoli district of Indian state of Maharashtra. It is 17 km away from Hingoli. Village is known as birthplace of Varkari sant and poet Namdev.[4] Earlier village was known as Narsi Bamani.

Demography

  • As per 2011 census, Narsi has total 1160 families residing. Village has population of 5,992 of which 3,071 were males while 2,921 were females.
  • Average Sex Ratio of Narsi village is 933 which is higher than Maharashtra state average of 929.
  • Literacy rate of Narsi village was 79% compared to 82.95% of Maharashtra. Male literacy rate was 87% while female literacy rate was 71%.
  • Schedule Caste (SC) constitutes 10% while Schedule Tribe (ST) were 3.2% of total population.[1]

Sant Namdev Sansthan Narsi

Saint Namdev

Narsi is the birthplace of 13th century Varkari saint Namdev. Narsi has temple of Namdev named "Sant Namdev Sansthan Narsi". Namdev being the important figure in Sikhism, both Hindu and Sikh followers visits the temple, annual fair is also held at Narsi. Government of Maharashtra has declared Narsi as holy place and developing it as religious tourist hub. Sikh followers are constructing gurudwara at Narsi along with a memorial of Namdev.[5]
